Greetings from Pihlajamaki (Helsinki, Finland)

Greetings from Helsinki!  I am a PHD student and research with trees.  I like this city because it has so many of these beautiful organisms.  My home is located on Pihlajamaki, which means rowan hill in English.  Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) is the tree highlighted in the middle of the picture, a species widespread across Eurasia.  Its red fruits are food for birds in winter.  (The picture is a little unrealistic, as trees normally send messages with their roots).

This card shows a typical German postbox and I was amazed to see how many of them are still around and actually in use!

The inserted picture of the tower shows the "Adolfsturm".  This is the landmark of Friedberg, the small town about 40 km north of Frankfurt Main where I live.

I discovered this beautiful event only a few months ago and I am very excited to be part of it.  I hope there will be many more to come!

I wish you all the best in these uncertain times where everything is ruled by some obnoxious little virus ...

Take Care!
With kind regards from Germany,
Sandy

Hello,
Greetings from Germany.  My name is Anke and I live near our capital city Berlin in a village named GroBbeeren.  I found 'International Postcard Week' through Postcrossing and participated in 2018 for the first time.  This year you get a little bit of a stylized chronic card about my home village.  I myself work in the capital in a pet shop and like to read fanfiction and play online games in my free time.

I wish you all the best and many nice cards.

Be Safe but adventurous

Hello from Idaho
Trina and Leo here wishing you an awesome adventure.  Safe and healthy life and an abundance of joy and happiness.  Also, some fun and a little bit of crazy mixed in.  And some good food and yummy dessert.  Eat in whatever order you desire because life is short and shenanigans can happen anywhere.

Yule, Florida
Abandoned mailbox along Highway 17
Knut Howard and Nellie Vanzang-Olfort opened both the St. Mary's Liquors store and Riverside Motel in 1954, just inside the Florida/Georgia border.  Today fading letters can be seen along the side of the liquor store which read "WHISKEY" and "SOUVENIRS".  Inside the motel, beds are still made and Bibles can be found in the nightstands.  The worn out sign off the side of the highway still points to the derelict structures.

The only ones lodging at Riverside Motel nowadays are the birds and the bees!  Wasps literally hang their pulpwood nests on the old, crumbling curtains while the mud daubers coat the walls in their long earthen tunnels.  It's quite creepy for an Entomophobe like myself!
Still I sincerely hope that you enjoyed a little glimpse into some Florida history!
Be well and send more snail-mail ;-)

Hi I'm Meredith.  My hometown is Penn Yan, NY, also known as PYNY.  The town was named for the Pennsylvania and Yankee settlers in the area.  Penn Yan is on the northern end of Y-shaped Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes.

Penn Yan is home to Burkett Mills, maker of the World's Largest Buckwheat Pancake!    Also known for Penn Yan Boats and a thriving wine industry, it is a small agricultural community.  If you want to read about something unusual, search for "Bluff Point Ruins" and see if you can solve the mystery!

Hurricane Laura
Hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30, with the peak of hurricane season being around the middle of September.  People who live in the south must watch and prepare for this every year.  One of the most devastating hurricanes to hit Louisiana before the peak of hurricane season is Hurricane Laura.  Between the evenings of August 25 and 26, Laura strengthened from a 75-knot category 1 hurricane to a 130-knot category 4 hurricane.  This one-day rapid intensification of 55-knots is among the steepest in the atlantic historical record.  She made landfall around 1 AM on August 27, 2020 as a category 4 major hurricane with wind speeds of 150 MPH around Cameron, Louisiana.  She was 7 miles shy of becoming a category 5 major hurricane.  The "Last Island" Hurricane of 1856 is the strongest-known storm to ever make landfall in the state of Louisiana.  That storm packed 150 MPH winds and is the exact level that Laura reached.  Hurricane Laura is a Hurricane for history books and her name will be retired and replaced in 2026.

International Postcard Week
October 4-10, 2020

Every year I am waiting for this week to come mostly because I can create a new card and receive other people's creations!  But this year it is even more special because we are all going through this challenging time and 2020 for sure will be a year to remember for many reasons!  But... I hope you are doing good.  Remember that no matter what we are going through there are beautiful days ahead! One of the things I enjoy is taking photos.  On the front of the card you can see some little memories I have captured from the local area.  I moved here just a few months ago and I am in love with the nature around me.
Find little things that make you happy!
Hugs,
Evita

I just thought I'd mention that postcards from Germany to the US or Russia take several weeks at the moment - so this might need a lot of patience this year... Kind regards, Sandy

Hello everyone,
Has anyone received the card from Inna from Russia yet?
Inna, if you read this, I hope that it's just taking a little longer.
Unfortunately, I haven't received Evita's lovely card, either.
Thanks again everyone, hope to exchange cards with you all again next year!
Love, Antje
